Discipleship Sermon: Introduction to the Discipleship Program at St Mary’s
Last Sunday on 11th February I gave a sermon introducing Discipleship and the steps that we at St Mary’s plan to take to help all of us be able to grow more as disciples of Christ. The sermon was split into two parts: first, an understanding of discipleship based upon Matthew 14: 25-32, Peter walking on water; second, an introduction of the model that I intend to use, and a practical explanation of how we can begin to develop our own discipleship, focussing on the first stage Listening and Discerning. I have also produced a leaflet with some resources to help us to listen, using tools like the contemplative toolkit, and some resources to help discern our giftings.
I would like to encourage you to begin taking part in this process. It is incredibly important that we all begin to listen to God and to take time to let Him speak. If we can do that then we will hopefully be able to change ourselves, our Church and our community in the way that God’s wants to.
To download the Leaflet, PPT and a PDF of the key points, then please click on the links to the side. You can also view the sermon from the 9.30am service.
More information can be found on the Discipleship Model page in the Menu. This will have some information about the model and links to resources that we can use. If you find other resources that you find help then please let us know so that we can share these with others.
